This exploratory study examined the relationship between Korean Japanese viewing of Korean dramas and ethnic identity in each generation. The results of the survey of Korean Japanese suggested that, (1)the first and second generations tend to view more Korean dramas than the third and fourth; (2)the viewing motivations and genre of Korean dramas differ according to generation can only be seen in the first and second generations, and (3)More Koreans Drama viewing links to stronger ethnic identity can be applied to all generation of Korean Japanese.
It is considered that this research, as a study of media effect, has made some achievements in examining the effect of popular culture from the aspect of ethnic identity.
