Ternary copper(II) complex containing a Schiff-base ligand derived from the condensation of o-vanillin and L-valine and 2,2′-bipyridine has been synthesized. Crystallographic studies show that the Cu(II) ion is coordinated to two oxygen atoms and one nitrogen atom of the Schiff-base anion ligand, and two nitrogen atoms of bipyridine, resulting in a seriously distorted square-pyramidal geometry.
