Abstract

A new galactolipid containing an eicosapentaenoyl (EPA) residue, named heterosigma-glycolipid II (2__∼), was isolated from a coltured raphidophycean dinoflagellate Heterosigma sp., together with another new galactolipid heterosigma-glycolipid I (1__∼). Based on enzymatic hydrolysis using lipase and physicoshemical evidence, the structures of heterosigma-glycolipids I (1__∼) and II (2__∼) have been determined as (2'S)-2', 3'-di-O-(6, 9, 12, 15-octadecatetraenoyl)-glyceryl β-D-galactopyranoside and (2'S)-2'-O-(6, 9, 12, 15-octadecatetraenoyl)-3'-O-(5, 8, 11, 14, 17-eicosapentaenoyl)-glyceryl β-D-galactophranoside, respectively.
