Two species of African Solanum (Solanaceae), S. dasyphyllum and S. aculeastrum, in the tropical montane forest in Zaire were found to be eaten and seed-dispersed only by elephants. No other animal is suggested to eat these fruits owing to the poisonous substances in fruits. It requires more substantial support, but this can be the first case reported that plants chose the special animals as the seed disperser by chemical means.
