Cross resistance to insect growth regulators in pyriproxyfen-resistant housefly was investigated using the third instar larvae of resistant YPPF strain and susceptible SRS strain. Although the YPPF housefly which possessed 880-fold resistance to pyriproxyfen had no cross-resistance to diflubenzuron, a chitin synthesis inhibitor, it showed medium cross-resistance to other two juvenile hormone analogs (JHAS), fenoxycarb and methoprene. The results indicate that the resistant housefly larvae may develop cross-resistance to JHAs. Rotational use of insecticides with no cross-resistance to each other is suggested for control of the pest insects.
