A Late Devonian lycopod Leptophloeum rhombicum Dawson is described from the Ainosawa Formation in the Soma area, Fukushima Prefecture, northeast Japan. In Japan the Upper Devonian formations with Leptophloeum consist mostly of shale and felsic-intermediate tuff, and are distributed in the Hida Gaien, South Kitakami and Kurosegawa Belts. They are deep-sea sediments accumulated in the trench slope basin nearby volcanic arc. The depositional site was probably located on the subduction zone bordering the eastern margin of North China (Sino-Korea) in the Late Devonian time.
