In Korean villages there are various traditional spatial elements such as surrounding mountains, rivers, sacred places, ancestral houses and so on. The purpose of this paper is to understand the dynamics and meaning behind the traditional spatial order which todays Korean villages are based on. To this end, initially, the backgrounds of thoughts and beliefs (Feng-shui, native beliefs of Sharmanism, Confucianism) concerning such spatial elements will be shown. Furthermore, by considering the performance of villagers, the well-known concepts (Definition, Axis, Hierarchy) which structurize spatial elements, will be re-examined.
