Abstract

In succession to the previous article on the colonial houses, the aim of this study is to clarify the morphological origin of the native colonial houses in Kudus in the modernization, by examining its design source in the neighbored city, Semarang. Several types of colonial house are available in Semarang. The colonial houses for Dutch, which belongs to the first period of the colonization, is presumed to be one of the prototypes of later colonial houses. In addition, compared with the native colonial houses in Kudus, the potential design source is recognized in the colonial houses of Semarang.
