Abstract
In this paper, an efficient response-constrained design method for preliminary design stage is presented. It enables designer to find the stiffness and strength distribution such that seismic-response would be equal to a specified value. Assuming that seismic relative displacement of each floor would be equal roughly and seismic ductility would be equal to 2, the stiffness and strength along the height of two models of highrise reinforced concrete buildings were designed. To show the validity of proposed procedure, linear and nonlinear response for lumped-mass model and frame model were conducted. The response results were coincided well with the specified values.
