This is the fourth report of the fundamental investigations for the planning of the public library system to community area in Japan. The paper describes, this time, how children read books and how they use libraries. Some of the results are as follows : 1) Children read a good many books compared with the adults, that are counted 5〜6 volumes per month on average. 2) Children use libraries more frequently compared with the adults. The public library use was, in some cases, most familiar source of book reading as well as the school library use. 3) Most of young children visit libraries to read or borrow books, while some of the senior children use the libraries only for the school task reserving the seat without borrowing books. 4) The geographic range of the clienteles of the public library, in case of children, is limitted within the area of radius of several hundreds metres at most.
