Abstract
As far as we are informed on this subject, there have been some studies which discuss the sun-exposure time during the day or shadow areas as a function of time around the structure facing due south and of rectangular form. This method is by no means practical. Urban structures are built randomly, regardless of direction or position, and most of them are accumulation of many cubes. We, in this thesis, have computed the sun-exposure time on the urban site influenced by the above mentioned structure, and have discussed some of the problems which arise in the process of computing and the solutions for them. we used a line printer as the method of output, believing that it is superior in popularity, convenience and applicability. We showed the sun-exposure time graphically on the reduced site plan. Applying the method to two site plan of Japanese high density apartment houses, and further, to one British one, we compared them with each other.
