Tests on flammability of ordinary fabrics and plastic films presently being sold on the market were conducted at the University of Tokyo, Building Research Institute of the Ministry of Construction and the Fire Prevention Board Laboratories in accordance with Japanese Industrial Standards and Fire Prevention Board Laboratory Standards as a part of research on flame retardation of materials chiefly used in building work. Results show that eighteen of thirty-seven fabrics tested were completely combustible and seven possessed flame retardant qualities while twelve specimens melted. Of the ten plastic films tested five were combustible while the remainder melted indicating that fabrics and plastic film now being marketed are mostly of a combustible nature,
