The way how shore protection in Japan should be

Abstract

The damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred in 2011 raised question about the needs of sea walls. In this presentation, a sea wall issue at Kayo coast, Okinawa, would be shown as example. We, the Nature Conservation Society of Japan think to keep the connectivity of shore environments is inevitable for keeping biological diversity. The need of sea walls and the status will be discussed.
