Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore the possibilties of library classification as subject access tool in an OCLC'S Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Online Project is described. The project experiments on the use of the DDC to enhance subject access. Based on the results of the experiment, the possiblities of library classification is discussed. From the discussion, the following can be concluded.
The hierachical notation and the subject terminologies in library classification provide subjects access not possible through the alphabetical approach of subject headings. But the effectiveness of library classification as a subject access tool is greatly affected by library classification practice.
