Direct analysis of silicon nitride for the determination of iron by ICP-ES with slurry nebulization has been attemped. A silicon nitride sample of 0.05g-0.5g is put into a 100ml flask and diluted to the volume with 0.5% (NaPO3)6 solution. The slurry is introduced into ICP torch with a concentric nebulizer, The main operating conditions were determined by using standard silicon nitride. Particle size of the solid sample and carrier argon gas flow rate had a great influence on sensitivity and accuracy in the determination of iron.
