Abstract

A simple continuous-flow generation of volatile bromine by oxidation of aqueous bromide with 100mM potassium persulfate in 5.0M sulfuric acid has been applied to the determination of bromine in some coastal seawaters by atmospheric pressure helium microwave induced plasma atomic emission spectrometry. The results of the application of this technique with the use of both standard additions and calibration graph methods are in good agreement with those obtained by ion chromatography and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.
