Abstract

Solvent extraction of La3+, Eu3+ and Lu3+ ions into carbon tetrachloride with thenoyltrifluoroacetone(Htta; HA) in the absence and presence of tetrabutylammonium ions(tba+) is measured and the effect of various factors on the extraction equilibrium is considered. The data are treated on the basis of association equilibrium of the neutral chelate, MA3, with the extracted ion-pairs of the reagents, A-•B+, in the organic phase. It is concluded that the degree of association is greater in the order of LaA3>EuA3>LuA3 or the stability of the ternary complex in the organic phase is higher in the order of LaA4-•B+>EuA4-•B+>LuA4-•B+
