Kynurenic acid, a metabolite of tryptophan, was found to form fluorescence by irradiation with ultraviolet lamp in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and methods of determination of kynurenic acid in serum by HPLC and in urine by flow injection analysis were developed using this fluorescence reaction. The calibration curves were linear in the range of 0.05-6.0pmol of injected kynurenic acid in HPLC and 0.20-120pmol in the flow injection analysis.
