A total of 1970 urine samples were screened by enzyme immunoassay (EMIT) using both the mono and polyclonal antibodies, during the period of Dec. 1990 through Jan. 1991. Positives were subsequently analyzed for confirmation of amphetamine profile compounds by GC, using the established standard operating procedures. Results indicated that only a small percentage of positives, with 85 samples(or 4.3%) in poly vs. 12 samples(or 0.6%) in monoclonal were shown in this study. The majority of these positives by polyclonal were due to the presence of phenylpropanolamine and pseudoephedrine. The actual number of possitive due to amphetamine compounds was identical, with 0.05% in both the mono and polyclonal assays.
