Sonerila aiensis C. W. Lin (Melastomataceae) from southwestern Sarawak is described and illustrated as new. It resembles S. hirtella Cogn., but differs in being appressed sericeous on the midrib and lateral veins on the adaxial surface (vs. hirtellous), of the lamina, pedicel ca. 1.5 (vs. 2–4) mm long and sparsely glandular hairy (vs. densely hirtellous), to 15 (vs. 1–4) flowers per inflorescence, and hypanthium glandular-hispid (vs. hirtellous).
