We tried to find useful bacteriophages against Edwardsiella tarda, a causative agent of edwardsiellosis from water samples of eel farms in order to control the disease in eel. The useful phages for phage typing of E. tarda could not be found because 175 strains of E. tarda used in this study were divided into 15 phage types by 8 strains of E. tarda phages and 87 strains of E. tarda were not sensitive to the phages. Strict host specificity of bacteriophage suggested the wide variety of E. tarda in eel ponds.
