The effects of LED light (blue, green, red and white) on neuropeptide gene expression related to food intake were investigated in marbled sole, in which growth was promoted with blue and green light. The expression of melanin-concentrating hormone 1 (mch1) and mch2 was higher in the brains of the fish under blue light than the other groups including the control group under fluorescent light. No differences in mRNA levels were observed in the other neuropeptides compared to the control. MCH is suggested to mediate the growth-promoting effect of blue light, while the neuropeptides related to growth-promotion by green light have yet to be identified.
