Many patients suffered for sea-squirt asthma, about which we have already made several reports in the oystershuckers, are also found in the workers engaged in pearl cultivation. Important facts about them are as follows: 1) Among 104 workers engaged in pearl cultivation, 49 cases were suspected of this disease; and these 49 workers showed high positive intradermal reaction rate (87.2%) and conjunctival reaction rate (40.9%) against the sea-squirt antigen extract. Three out of four cases with typical sumptoms of seasquirt asthma showed positive P-K reaction. 54 cases without asthmatic symptoms showed 21.4% of positive intradermal reaction rate and none showed positive conjunctival reaction with the same antigen extract. 29 At the intradermal reaction with the white sea-squirt (styela plicata) antigen extract prepared either through precipitation and fractionation method using ethanol, through Yamamura method, or through D-P method, high positive reaction rate (53.1〜71.4%) was seen only in the sea-squirt asthma cases; while in the ordinary asthmatic cases low positivity (6.7〜11.4%) was seen. At the conjunctival reaction, the same result was seen in the cases used of D-P method antigen extract, but in the cases of Yamamura method antigen, no positivity were found even in the sea-squirt asthma patients. 3) The first case of the sea-spuirt asthma was found in 1957, and since about 1963 the tendency of rapid increase has been observed. 4) The outbreake of the symptom of sea-squirt asthma was found most frequently when the workers were engaged in the cleaning of pearl-nets, and the percentage of its outbreake was higher in the district where workers labor indoors than where they labor outdoors. 5) As to the type of this disease, the symptom of allergic rhinitis was most numerous, and then the complication of this symptom and that of coughing fit or of asthma was often seen. 6) The majority of the patients were attacked within five years of their labor, and no relation was found between the outbreake of the disease and patient's age or sex.
