A convenient screening method for nematicidal activity was devised. In this method nematicidal activity can be judged from superficial appearances of the fungal mat, the diet of nematodes, without counting nematodes, Among 61 species of the terrestrial plants tested against Bursaphelenchus lignicolus, 11 species (especially in Compositae and Euphorbiaceae) proved active. Artemisia capillaris (leaf and stem), Cirsium japonicum (root), Coreopsis lanceolata (flower), Erigeron annul (root) and Prunus verecunda (leaf) showed pronounced activity.
