Toromycin, a New Antibiotic Produced by Streptomyces collinus subsp. albescens subsp. nov

Abstract

A new antibiotic, toromycin (antibiotic B-21085) was isolated as yellow crystals from the culture broth of Streptomyces collinus subsp. albescens subsp. nov. The antibiotic has the molecular formula C₂₇H₂₆O₉ and is the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon group of antibiotics. Toromycin is active against gram-positive bacteria, mycobacteria, mycoplasma, DNA viruses and some bacteriophages.
