1. Using the transmission method, resonance method and bridge method, dielectric constants and losses are measured on paraffin-wax mixtures of twelve specimens of coal ranging from C Rough 65 to 92%.
2. Dielectric constants of coals are estimated for these coals by means of Böttcher’s equation
3. The relation between dielectric constant and oxygen content is discussed and it is shown that polar groups contribute to dielectric constant.
4. From the comparison with optical dielectric constant, the motion of dipoles in coals in the electric field can be discussed. Rough estimates of dipole moments are also given.
