The Mössbauer spectra of a variety of asyet-unexplored iron compounds have been investigated by using 14.4 keV. gamma rays from 57Fe. The isomer shifts and the quadrupole splitting extracted from the spectra have been discussed in terms of the electronegativity of the atoms connected to the iron atom. The correlation of these values with the bond character and the chemical structure has also been discussed qualitatively. The results obtained for a series of glassy substances of iron phosphate suggest that the Mössbauer spectra may permit us to study the chemical structure of iron compounds in an amorphous substance.
