The bromide 1 was treated with sodium methoxide or phenoxide to give exclusively the corresponding substituted product. The predominant formation of the substituted products was also recognized with regard to various amines. However, the reaction with triethylamine proceeded more complicatedly to give the products via reduction process together with a trace amount of the dimer of N-phenyl-C-(trifluoromethyl)nitrilimine.
