The transglutaminase activity was found in cytosol and membrane fractions of endothelial cells from bovine carotid artery. The molecular weight was estimated to be approximately 58,000 by gel permeation chromatography. Addition of retinoids (retinol, retinal and retinoic acid) to the culture medium ofendothelial cells caused a marked increase in the transglutaminase activity, and also in specific uptake of low density lipoprotein by endothelial cells.
