The lattice model, which has been used in physics, is a convenient model to describe the nearest-neighbors interactions between individuals. The ecological dynamics has no equations like physics and is modeled to fit the real ecological systems. Therefore, different assumptions produce different ecological dynamics, which makes modeling in ecology interesting. Here I show that different birth and death processes, influenced by social interactions between neighbors, lead to different outcomes of the competition for space in a lattice. Moreover, I show the ecological dynamics caused by the competition for space between individuals is also different from that of colonies.
