Seven anthocyanins, i.e. delphinidin and cyanidin 3-O-glucosides, and delphinidin, cyanidin, peonidin, petunidin and malvidin 3-O-rutinosides were isolated and identified from the reddish leafy stems and rhizomes of Zingiber mekongense. In addition, the distribution of seven anthocyanins was revealed in nine Zingiberaceae species, Boesenbergia albomaculata, Hedychium flavescens, H. villosum var. kachinense, Kaempferia marginata, K. rotunda, Z. collinsii, Z. flavofusiforme, Z. ligulatum, Z. thorelii, and one Costaceae species, Costus afer by HPLC comparisons among the reddish leafy stems, leaves and/or rhizomes. Furthermore, the relationships of these species and anthocyanins were discussed with past reports.
