This paper, a part of a study on Budo being conducted with the physical education in Japan, was attempted to clarify the characteristics of Budo and the problems concerning Budo on the physical education through the analysis of the transition of the attention point that is related to the enforcement method of Budo in the school course guidelines of Japan.
Throughout the course of this paper it became clear that future enforcement of Budo as a teaching material on the school curriculums is put to difficult situation because the contents and method of Budo are described ambiguously in the school course guidelines in recent years. Thereby it is important for us to reinvestigate the new contents and method of teaching Budo that considered the purpose of the new school course guidelines because next school course guidelines will be carried out from Heisei 14 (2002). In addition, the reconfirmation of the traditional characteristic of Budo and the promotion of a new method of teaching Budo were also discussed from the viewpoint how improves the mental health of the student.
