A simple procedure for determining up to 0.01% arsenic in glass has been presented, which consists in the extraction of arsenic as its iodide into cyclohexane from a sample solution of 6N in hydrochloric acid and 1.0M in potassium iodide and the measurement of absorbance of the extract at 282 or 380 mμ. Errors due to relatively large amounts of tin and antimony can be avoided by washing the extract with 6N hydrochloric acid-1.0M iodide solution. Selenium must be removed from the sample solution by strong heating to fumes with sulfuric acid. The other constituents in ordinary glasses do not interfere.
