Yoichiro Nambu 40 Years Ago and Particle Physics in Those Days(In Commemoration of the 2008 Nobel Prizes of Physics Winners; Yoichiro Nambu, Makoto Kobayashi and Toshihide Maskawa)

Abstract

I happened to be a graduate student under the guidance of Professor Nambu in 1967-1970. It was the golden days of particle physics, and at the same time when Nambu formulated the famous string theory of hadrons. I wish to convey to the reader how Nambu reached the idea of string theory as I see it, and how he contributed to particle physics as one of the greatest physicists of today.
