Jean-Georges Noverre is regarded as a great ballet-reformer in the 18. Century, although his way of thinking remains within the limit of the traditional, at most the typical philosophy of that time. His ‘Lettres sur la Dance et sur les Ballets’ are read not only as one of the important literature of the aesthetic of the enlightenment, but also as a book of instructions for the ballet-learning until today. However, some notions in his ‘Lettres’ have quite different meanings from these of today. Especialy the “passion”, the “nature”as well as the “imitation of the nature” are the most important notions in the Noverres aesthetic, Which were understood however in the middle seventeen hundreds differently from today and thus the stones of stumbling for us.
