The “sandbox wedge experiment,” in which deformation is formed by horizontal shortening of granular material layers, is useful for observing fault and fold. We developed teaching material for an experimental device and procedure to form various deformation structures with high reproducibility. In practice with elementary school students, we confirmed that various deformations for each granular material layer can be performed with high reproducibility using the device and procedure. We expect that more fulfilling experiments will be possible by improving the equipment and increasing the strength characteristic data of granular materials.
