Abstract

Two rhenium(III) complexes with a single oxide bridge, [Re2(μ-O)Cl2(L)2]2+ (L = 2,2′-bipyridine (bpy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen)) were prepared, and the crystal structure of the phen complex was determined. The complexes show four reversible one-electron redox couples, [Re2(μ-O)Cl2(L)2]0/+/2+/3+/4+ in acetonitrile. Both Re2(III,III) and Re2(III,IV) states of these complexes exhibit strong visible absorption bands.
