Abstract

It was found that melamine derivatives bearing a guanidinium ion assemble a thymine-thiazolium ion and pyruvate in close proximity via hydrogen bonds to enhance the rate of the oxidative decarboxylation in CHCl3-MeCN (9 : 1 v/v), where the guanidinium ion not only binds pyruvate but also activates it.
