Control of the bilayer structure is an important issue for both scientific and technological uses of lipid bilayers. The present experiments have succeeded in the control of lipid bilayer stacking dynamics via two mechanisms that can work in concert: electrophoretic and electro-osmotic mechanisms. This can be achieved simply by applying an appropriate electric field on preformed lipid bilayer stackings. The present experimental approach offers a simple and general way of controlling lipid bilayer stacking structures.
