Herein, we synthesize and characterize polyamide carboxylic acids containing amino acid by polymerization via the amidocarbonylation of bifunctional components. Cobalt-catalyzed hydroformylation followed by intermolecular amidocarbonylation of alkenoic acid amide yields the head-to-tail polyamide carboxylic acid with a structure resembling that of γ-polyglutamic acid constructed from the long-chain homologous of glutamic acid. Conversely, palladium-catalyzed amidocarbonylation of an equimolar amount of diamide and dialdehyde yields head-to-head polyamide carboxylic acid that contains the linear long-chain homolog of bis-α-amino acid.
