A novel amino acid derivative having two ferrocene units spontaneously forms regular microspheres in binary aqueous-tetrahydrofuran (THF) media. The size of microspheres is controllable from nano-to-micro dimension depending on the concentration and composition of the binary solvent. These microspheres display reversible redox properties as characterized by cyclic voltammetry.
