Flower-like BiOClxIy solid solution microspheres were synthesized with a 2:1 molar ratio of chloride (Cl) to iodine (I) by a solvothermal method. The surface area of the sample is 52.26 m2 g-1, which is at least 10 times larger than those of individual BiOX. When used as an adsorbent for the removal of organic dye, the microsphere exhibited notably higher adsorption ability than the individual BiOX. The adsorption efficiency could reach nearly 100% within 10 min. The relevant characterization revealed that the microsphere consisted of accumulated nanosheets.
