Studies on the Chemical Synthesis of Potential Antimetabolites. XXXIV. Apparent Discrepancy among Reported Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectra of 3-Deazaadenosine Is Actually a Reflection of a Difference in Molecular Species

It was shown that the remarkable discrepancy among reported proton nuclear magnetic resonance (¹H NMR) spectra of 3-deazaadenosine obtained under comparable conditions is actually a reflection of a difference in molecular species, one being neutral and another being cationic, by carefully measuring the ¹H NMR spectra of 3-deazaadenosine and its hydrochloride as well as 3-deazaadenine derivatives, whose preparation is also described.
