The rate of growth of the pollen tubes is the same in self- and cross-matings with C. olitorius as _??_.
The rate of growth of the pollen tubes is the same on self- and cross-matings with C. capsularis as _??_.
There is a slight difference between the reciprocal matings. Germination is late in C. capsularis but the pollen tubes reach the base of the style ten minutes earlier.
Incompatibility is not due to any retardation in the growth of the pollen tubes along the stylar tissue in either case.
The shortness of the style between the species offers no advantage in overcoming inter-specific incompatibility.
