The following conclusion was obtained from the result of sulfur addition and stress relief annealing for Fe-42%Ni lead frame alloy.
(1) The measurement of burr in volume made the observation of burr more precise. A laser microscope was very effective for such measurement.
(2) Burr and shear drop could be reduced by addition of a very small amount of sulfur. The addition of around 0.01% sulfur did not have any influence on the other characteristic necessary for lead frame.
(3) Although stress relief annealing was very effective for reduction of lead displacement, it was necessary to set adequate annealing condition. It seemed that shrinkage after stress relief annealing was due to delta-alpha effect.
