The usefulness of Quality Assurance (QA) in the processing of intra-oral X-ray film was evaluated for 49 dental clinics which were all members of a dental association in Nagasaki. The clinics were the same subjects in our previous survey of film processing. The results in the previous survey at each clinic and recommendations regarding appropriate film processing procedures was mailed to them. Subsequent efficacy of film processing after the recommendations at each clinic was evaluated by the second survey of film processing, and we also set out a questionnaire on interest in film processing. The results showed the improvement in film processing procedures and increasing interest in them. QA of this kind should be performed periodically, because the improvement of film processing procedures reduces unnecessary patient exposure and improves the image quality of intra-oral radiogram.
