It is a general trend among Japanese people that in summer the body weight is apt to decrease owing to the poor appetite. Especially in case of the students of the high school who are in the high-teen in age the weight loss in summer is of great concern from a viewpoint of nutrition.
This paper is to report about a nutrition survey carried out through one year on 51 students of a certain high school in Tokyo.
In their intakes of energy, fat and vitamin A, seasonal variations were considerably large, especially their calorie intake in summer was on an average about 12% lower than that in autumn and winter, both in boys and girls. Vitamin A intake showed also a significant difference between summer and winter.
The body weight decrease was remarkable in summer in both the sexes, but they recovered the loss in autumn
