A taste survey on the use of Frozen Medical Foods which have recently been put into practical use in Japan has been carried out in diabetic patients. Fifteen diabetics who are regular out-patients of the Jikei University School of Medicine tested fifteen varieties of the products, respectively and reported the results have together with their opinion about future outlook of the products. Generally speaking the Vegetable dishes were not favourable except Satsumajiru, while Beancurd, Rice and Roux dishes were all tasted comparatively good. As for Fish and Meat dishes, paste and ground types were more preferred. Many patients are of the opinion that consumers can save their time in calorie calculation as it is clearly shown on the products and most patients were disposed for occasional use in the future.
From the above results, it is advisable that the products should be introduced in the diet training-class and the patients be well guided to its moderate use.
Since the products will create a considerable merit on easier dietary therapy for diabetics, further improvement in quality is strongly required.
