Recently, "in-cell" technology has been attracting people's attention for improving LCD performance, in which optical components such as retardation films and/or polarizers are fabricated inside glass substrates. For the technology, the use of UV-curable LC materials combined with a photo-alignment method are expected to bring LCDs into further improvement in the performance. In this study, we focus on fabricating "in-cell" gest-host-type polarizers, in which we use UV-curable LC materials dissolved with dichroic dyes. We report optical properties of the polarizers and also show the device performance of a VA cell having in-cell polarizers.
