Abstract

I am conducting research on a method to solve the crystallographic phase problem and determine the electron density distribution from diffraction measurements of liquid crystal bicontinuous phases, represented by the gyroid phase, which have three-dimensional periodicity. From the characteristics of the electron density of the liquid crystal bicontinuous phase, I have already demonstrated that two indicators are effective in evaluating the correctness of the electron density (or crystallographic phase). Here, I report a method of using the volume fraction of high and low electron density regions within the liquid crystal molecules as an indicator for evaluating electron density.
